Chapter 51: Attentive

Su Ye believed that he had already developed a basic mental representation of beasts like that.
However, Su Ye was confident, not arrogant.
“A cheetah is a cheetah, and a Frost Wolf is a Frost Wolf. Even though there are similarities between the two, there would also be a large number of differences. This difference is not only quantitative but also qualitative. I have to build a mental representation that is unique to the Frost Wolf on the foundation I have developed before. Since that is the case, I have to be more attentive than I was yesterday!”
Su Ye gently tapped his right thumb and index finger then took a deep breath. He moved his feet, shoulder-width apart, and extended his shoulders back. He then opened his arms and allowed them to fall naturally.
Niedern was keen enough to notice that just like yesterday, Su Ye’s eyes reflected the passion of youth and the maturity of a middle-aged man after Su Ye did that little action with his right hand. Su Ye’s gaze was immensely clear and had indescribable purity.
A focused gaze.
Niedern felt a chill in his heart. He had seen a look like this in the mirror when he was young. However, it had been a long time since he saw it.
The gazes of the other students were equally pure, but he had never seen a gaze like Su Ye’s, which seemed to harbor large amounts of positive emotions.
“He is indeed a lucky genius.”
Niedern said, “Good. Now, just like yesterday, the Frost Wolf will start to attack you. The Frost Wolf is far more dangerous than the cheetahs, and so I won’t allow it to attack you directly. However, the pressure and various other aspects of the Frost Wolf are incomparable to that of the cheetahs. You can try to avoid its attacks. Of course, I cannot do anything if you were to actively ram into its body. I can only send you for a healing treatment afterward.”
“Bring it on!” Su Ye’s eyes burned with fighting spirit.
Niedern moved his finger. The Frost Wolf let out a bloodthirsty howl and pounced right at Su Ye.
At this moment, Su Ye knew that his guess was correct.
A terrifying Mind Power assaulted him and pinned his feet to the ground. At this instant, Su Ye felt his entire body go numb. He had completely lost control over his body and could only stare helplessly as the Frost Wolf pouncing at him.
However, not only was Su Ye unafraid, but he became even more excited instead.
“This is the power of a Magical Beast!”
A mocking look flashed past the Frost Wolf’s eyes. It twisted its body and brushed past Su Ye when it got close.
Its fur rustled as it brushed against Su Ye’s outer robes.
Su Ye only came to his senses now. He looked down and saw that his outer robe had been shredded by the Frost Wolf’s fur. There were traces of red on his skin, but his skin had not been damaged.
“Exquisite control. It is indeed incomparable to that of the cheetahs’.” Su Ye was elated.
Su Ye had thought that Magical Beasts were just beasts that had immense strength. He only understood now that the intelligence of a Magical Beast was no lower than that of an ordinary warrior, at least not in battle. Coupled with its strength, it was very possible for them to be at the standard of an exceptional warrior of the same level.
Niedern was very satisfied when he saw Su Ye’s expression. He said, “Very good, it looks like you are suitable for combat! You are a genius in combat.”
Su Ye was frustrated. He did not like being praised as a genius. He would rather someone acknowledge his efforts and serious attitude, as he had achieved everything from his results, attitude, actions, and mindset using a predetermined method. He had obtained everything he had through years of practice. He did not have such an ability from birth.

However, Su Ye had no way of explaining himself.

Niedern said, “After this month is over, and after your foundation is strong enough, I’ll put in an application with the vice dean for you to train once within the Door of Mirrors.”
“Is that so? That’s great!” Su Ye did not expect to obtain an opportunity to train within the Door of Mirrors. Hort had waited for five years, but still did not have the right to enter.
The Door of Mirrors was a large-scale legendary illusory technique. It had been created by Socrates and was expanded by several other Legendary Mages. It had become one of the best training spots in the whole of Greece.
“Though, let’s deal with the Frost Wolf today,” Niedern said.
Then, the Frost Wolf started to unleash a variety of attacks at Su Ye. It would avoid Su Ye only at the absolute last second.
What shocked Su Ye was that the Frost Wolf left faint red marks on his body every time it attacked, but it never did slice open his skin and create an injury.
Su Ye became even more excited, as the more powerful the Frost Wolf was, the more he could learn from it.
Niedern let out a soft sigh in his heart when he saw Su Ye’s expression. He once again took out his spellbook and recorded Su Ye’s training process.
At the same time, a ball of fire was rising in Niedern’s heart.
“If even my student can maintain such a level of passion, I cannot allow myself to be dispirited!”
Unlike yesterday’s outcome, Su Ye could not trap the Frost Wolf with his Magic Rope, no matter which method he tried.
Ring…
The bell for the afternoon break sounded.
Niedern smiled and said, “How do you feel? Are you frustrated? Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.”
Su Ye smiled happily. “It’s wonderful! Frustrated? Non-existent! Pressure? None! Only a challenge and motivation! The training this time told me that my Magic Rope could be more accurate. It turns out that there’s still a large area to improve on regarding my control of magic.”
Niedern nodded. He thought for a moment before he said, “You geniuses have a similar quality.”
“Hm?” Su Ye was both confused and irritated.
Niedern explained, “I have taught many students, with there being no lack of exceptional students. They were able to quickly gain an advantage when battling the cheetahs, but would always be greatly impacted when fighting the Frost Wolf. They would realize just how weak they were, how bad their control over magic was, how powerful a real Magical Beast was. But you, just like a minority of people, including Aristotle, would never speak about how weak you are. Instead, you said that you needed to improve. The meanings are similar, but the attitude is completely different. You are more positive, and so, the outcome will naturally be different.”
Su Ye wanted to explain that this had nothing to do with being a genius. This was called “mindset change” or “positive framing” and was considered common sense on the Blue Star. Though there were not many people who deliberately cultivated a habit like this, and very few truly changed their lives because of it.
“Go rest for a while and attend classes in the afternoon. I’ll head to the class around the start of the self-study period, mainly to look for you,” Niedern said.
“Can you not harm me as much?” Su Ye looked at Niedern with earnest, longing eyes.
“It should be a little better than Hutton,” Niedern said.

“You win!” Su Ye left, irritated.
Su Ye quickly washed up, meditated, and had lunch during the break. He then returned to the classroom in his tattered clothes.
There was a sudden, brief silence in the classroom before everything quickly returned to normal.
Many students stole glances at Su Ye’s shirt. They were very envious.
In the past, they thought that Su Ye had been called out by Teacher Niedern to be scolded, but it was unusual to be scolded two mornings in a row. The students soon deduced that Teacher Niedern was giving Su Ye personal training!
The traces on Su Ye’s shirt proved everything.
“You fought with a Frost Wolf?” Laker only stared at Su Ye for two seconds before he exclaimed involuntarily.
“No, no,” Su Ye said in a hurry.
The class once again slipped into silence. They looked at Su Ye in disbelief.
They had already gone through the first class on the subject of Magical Beasts. Even if they didn’t, all of them knew that the Frost Wolf was a Magical Beast that was at the black iron level. They were even hailed as the overlords of the black iron level in Northern Greece and Northern Europe.
Teachers would occasionally summon Frost Wolves in the arena for the upperclassmen to train with during the afternoon break. Everyone had seen them in the past.
Students who could fight against a Frost Wolf were targets of their admiration.
