The terrified Yang Qingyin couldn’t have imagined such a twist during a romantic moment, and she had no time to react.
Seeing someone charging at her with a knife, she screamed instinctively and immediately started backing away.
As she retreated, a pair of strong arms wrapped around her, followed by Luo Ziling’s voice ringing out, “Don’t be afraid, I’m here!”
After steadying Yang Qingyin’s body, Luo Ziling launched a kick that knocked the assailant’s dagger away. Using her body for leverage, he delivered a series of chain kicks, landing directly on the attacker’s head.
The assassin, who hadn’t expected Luo Ziling’s incredibly swift response, screamed miserably and was sent flying.
After being kicked by Luo Ziling, the assailant slammed into the sidewalk.
The thick plane tree shook from the impact, shedding a dense flurry of raindrops.
Luo Ziling executed another straight kick, sending the scrambling thug crashing back to the ground.
He then delivered a powerful diagonal chop directly to the attacker’s neck. The thug, having taken a severe blow to the neck, grunted and collapsed onto the ground, unable to get back up. The heavy collision with the ground made the bystanders feel the tremor.
Unsure if there were other assailants, Luo Ziling swiftly pulled Yang Qingyin into a nearby shop after taking down the two attackers. The still-shaken Yang Qingyin gradually regained her senses, clutching Luo Ziling’s hand tightly with a pale face.
“Ah, you’re hurt,” exclaimed Yang Qingyin upon noticing the wound on Luo Ziling’s shoulder, and she hastily pressed her hand against it.
The blood was still flowing, quickly staining her hand with traces of it.
Ignoring the blood on her hands, she immediately opened her backpack, pulled out tissues, and held them to Luo Ziling’s injury.
“You’re hurt, hurry to the hospital,” Yang Qingyin trembled as she spoke.
“It’s nothing,” Luo Ziling smiled at Yang Qingyin and calmly took out a bottle from his bag, asking her to remove the tissues while he sprinkled the contents on his wound.
Strangely, as soon as the powder touched the injury, the bleeding stopped immediately.
“Help me apply some powder to the wound on my back,” Luo Ziling handed the powder to Yang Qingyin and asked for her assistance.
He couldn’t see or reach the injury on his back, so he needed Yang Qingyin’s help.
Yang Qingyin then realized Luo Ziling had also been stabbed in the back, and her tears suddenly flowed.
Still, she bit her lip and with trembling hands took the bottle, opened his clothes, and poured a generous amount of powder onto the wound.
Seeing the bleeding stop after the powder was applied, Yang Qingyin finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“Damn it, you used up half the bottle of powder,” Luo Ziling couldn’t help but feel distressed. This extravagant woman, there was no need to use so much powder; what a waste. This was valuable antiseptic medicine, a little bit was enough to stop the bleeding, and it also disinfected and provided pain relief.
Had Luo Ziling been using it himself, the amount Yang Qingyin used would have lasted him over ten times, hence his chagrin.
“Junior, how are you? Is everything okay?” Yang Qingyin’s tears finally fell, completely ignoring Luo Ziling’s mild rebuke.
“I’m fine, I won’t die,” Luo Ziling smiled at Yang Qingyin, “But you wasted so much of my medicine, which is quite expensive. You owe me a treat—a big meal so I won’t feel too bad about the loss.”
Yang Qingyin couldn’t believe Luo Ziling was still making jokes at such a time. She felt both saddened and annoyed, but she didn’t lose her composure. Instead, she immediately took out her cellphone with her bloodstained hands and dialed the emergency number.
The owner of the small shop they had ducked into, petrified by the scene that had unfolded, didn’t dare approach to ask about the situation and had hidden away to call the police instead.
Once Luo Ziling felt the bleeding had stopped, he instructed Yang Qingyin to stand still and not move while he went out again to check the situation.
Seeing that the two assailants he had injured were attempting to struggle to their feet, Luo Ziling quickly rushed forward and knocked them to the ground once more.
This time, he was even more ruthless. He broke their legs and arms with his strikes, bending their arms out of shape.
His grandfather’s teachings were not about killing, and Lin Lan’s lethal methods had not been completely mastered by Luo Ziling; therefore, when he acted, he did not strike with lethal force. The combat skills of the two assailants were not bad; at least they were quite resistant to being struck.
This was a bustling district, and the fight had shocked many of the onlookers.
No one dared to come closer, but many people stood at a distance to watch the commotion, with at least a dozen calling the police.
Just as Luo Ziling rushed out and knocked the two attackers to the ground again, two patrol officers quickly approached them. As the officers charged forward, they reported the situation via their radios and called for backup.
After Luo Ziling had knocked down the two attackers, ensuring they couldn’t rise again, he retreated back to Yang Qingyin, took her by the shoulders to comfort her, and urged her not to panic, even though tears lingered on her face.
Yang Qingyin had managed to calm herself, but she couldn’t help crying out of concern for Luo Ziling’s injuries.
She hadn’t seen clearly how Luo Ziling had knocked down the attackers earlier, but she had had a clear view of the most recent encounter.
The sight of Luo Ziling giving the attackers a thrashing had been a cathartic moment for her, and she too wished to give them a beating. However, she restrained herself and instead pondered the cause of the attack.
Her first thought was that the Yang Family could have orchestrated this assassination attempt against Luo Ziling.
The idea that her own grandfather or father could have ordered such a ruthless hit filled Yang Qingyin with sorrow and anger.
But she immediately considered that it might not have been orchestrated by her grandfather or father, as they had no need or reason to do so. Perhaps someone else was behind it.
One thing was clear to her: she had to find out who was behind their attempted murder on the street, and she wouldn’t let the true mastermind get away with it.
If it turned out that someone from the Yang Family had planned the assassination, she was determined to dig to the bottom of it and to seek justice for Luo Ziling.
“Put your hands up,” the two patrol officers, with their guns drawn, approached the shop and aimed at Luo Ziling, ordering him to surrender.
Yang Qingyin quickly stepped in front of Luo Ziling, shielding him with her body.
After Yang Qingyin positioned herself in front of Luo Ziling, she calmly explained the situation to the police, “My friend was stabbed by them, and I request that he be allowed to go to the hospital first. I made the emergency call earlier, those two are the criminals, and they tried to kill us both.”
Hearing Yang Qingyin’s account and seeing Luo Ziling’s injuries, the two officers exchanged glances before finally lowering their guns.
One officer kept his gun trained on the two assailants felled by Luo Ziling and ordered them to cease struggling. The other officer stood two meters away from Yang Qingyin and Luo Ziling, telling them to stay put for the moment.
Soon, two more fully armed patrol officers ran up to the scene, guns drawn. One joined his colleague in subduing the two attackers on the ground, while the other approached Luo Ziling and Yang Qingyin.
From a distance, the shrill sound of police sirens was heard as additional police forces arrived.
